Hello, Everyone! In this latest video blog (see below), I want to cover a serious topic that has received a lot of media attention as of late. Given the recent shooting tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, many folks have pointed to video game violence as a possible contributing factor to shootings and other acts of aggression and violence. In fact, this has been a topic of concern ever since video games such as Space Invaders first hit the scene. Every time there is a mass shooting, such as in Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, and now Newtown, video game violence receives increased scrutiny and blame. This is definitely a topic worthy of careful investigation and consideration, and I will tackle this important issue in multiple segments. Here’s the first one, and I hope you will pass it around and come back for the rest!—Dr. Brooks
Mike,
I am glad you are covering this topic. I look forward to future video blogs about it. We no longer have young children at home, but now I am concerned as a grandparent.
Don
ANYTHING AN INDIVIDUAL IS EXPOSED TO FOR PROLONGED AMOUNTS OF TIME BECOME A PART OF WHO THEY ARE. I DON’T THINK WE LIKE TO ADMIT THAT. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR AN UNDEVELOPED MIND TO DISCERN REAL FROM “NOT REAL”? WATCHING AND PARTICIPATING IN VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES STUMPS THE GROWTH OF THE MIND IN MY OPINION. LONG AGO PARENTS WERE STRICTER AS TO WHO, WHAT, AND WHERE THEIR CHILDREN WERE WITH, DOING, GOING, ETC. THE CURRENT GENERAL ATTITUDE IS SO RELAXED, I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO SAY THAT REALITY IS A TERM THAT HAS A VASTLY DIFFERENT MEANING THAN IT DID A FEW YEARS AGO. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WEBSITE, OPINIONS, VIDEOS, AND BLOG.
SANDRA
Thanks, Don! I look forward to posting more. I have one more in the pipe with several more to go after that. 🙂
Sandra, I appreciate being appreciated and your thoughts/opinions on this matter. I do believe parents need to be involved and set limits with their kids for sure. I have several more segments to come on this topic, so I hope you return to see those.
Best,
Dr. Brooks
